One aspect of artist's book production is the interrogation of the materiality of the book. In many instances the artist subverts the traditional western material of paper for more provocative, expedient or necessary materials such as acetate, ceramic, glass, plastic, leaves, metal, fabric, etc. Each material is exploited in order to enhance its content. See for example Ronald King's The Mirror Book (Cat: 31), which makes anything it reflects its content, while Katharine Meynell's Emissions (Cat: 58) confuses its content by being printed on transparent Mylar, thereby superimposing the text and images of every page.
