Schoonraad mentions the date (which does not appear in the catalogue) and that the exhibition toured to Arnhem in The Hague and to the Groningen Museum during 1958 and 1959.

Reference note:
The short portion on Battiss in the introduction reads:

Er is nun dabei, sien Werk azurunden.

The painter Walter Battiss, born in 1906, made more and more progress over time. His particular stylistical development begins with his studies and his love for the old Bushman art in South Africa, which fascinated him particularly because of its simplification and stylization of the figures, the feeling for movement, the speaking colours and the feeling of missing perspective. Bushman art is actually primitive abstract art related to prehistoric art in Europe. So for Battiss it is a natural progression to cultivate a deep love and feeling for fashionable abstract art. For a while he was heavily influenced by Picasso and Braque. A beautiful synthesis of primitive and modern abstraction (or of highly stylized rendition) while adding his own particular sensibility to the shaping of South African motifs and colours. He is now in the process of rounding off his work.
