Additional notes:
A unique artist's book object by Gloria Helfgott. 7" x 4.5". Two 4.5" x 4.5" blocks on a painted wooden base. A hole in the top block contains the bottom half of a small wooden painted toy figure of Alice figure converted with sculpting media, paint and paper. The bottom block has square cut-out holes, each containing different objects - a small red teapot, a black top hat, white gloves and the face of a clock. The white gloves, the Mad Hatter's hat and the clock are recreations and the teapot is a found object. Both blocks are painted and written on in white acrylic ink over beige acrylic paint on Davey board. One has to read sideways, upside down and around. Both blocks turn separately on a painted wooden base, with metal construction and ball bearings. Laid in a red cloth dropback box lined with red suedette with a white painted wooden rabbit on the right hand bottom of the lid. Helfgott writes: "Presenting Lewis Carroll's words and John Tenniel's images are a conceit on my part. I wanted to physically show Alice going down the rabbit hole and to use the image as a metaphor of not conforming to rules of bookmaking." Signed, titled and dated by the artist on the bottom of the base of the work.
