Bookseller's description: One of 40 copies, all on cream Velin d'Arches paper a la cuve, signed in ink in the colophon of each volume by Samuel Cesar Palui, publisher. Page size: 12-7/8 inches x 10 inches; 88pp. Bound: original paper wrappers for each volume, the FAUSTO wrappers are an original aquatint, the CARTO has green paper wrappers; both are housed together in blue paper over boards clamshell box with black cloth edges, title printed in red on the spine, fine. Handset by Ruben R. Lapolla and printed by him under the direction of Cesar Palui, FAUSTO contains aquatints and etchings by Mirta Ripoll editioned by her on her own press. CARTA contains aquatints by Alicia Scavino editioned by her. Both have reproduced the text in distinctive and appealing handwriting in the form of etching. Estanislao del Campo (1834-1880) is one of the most popular Argentine poets; his gaucho-burlesque poem - here reprinted - is his most popular work. The CARTA tells of Anastasio the Chicken who, by chance, attends a performance of Gounod's FAUST. Unable to distinguish between reality and fiction, he takes the opera's events to heart. The images herein - of Faust and the chicken-man are fabulous - a fantasy of unending imagination.
