In 1964, Edward Ruscha published Various Smal Fires after haing published Twentysix Gasoline Stations in 1963. Forty years later, Thirtysix Fire Stations represents all the fire stations of the city of Montreal in operation on December 19, 2001. Fire Station No. 48 was closed for renovation. Relocated at 11371 East Notre-Dame Street, Fire Station No. 8 was not found at 3655 Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevaard. Fire Station No. 20 at 181 West Saint-Antoine Street was demolished and has been rebuilt at 920 Saint-Urbain Street. Waiting for an eventual return to the places that were not photographed, some pages in this book remain vacant.
