The title of this work by Marcel Duchamp is: 3 ou 4 gouttes de hauteur n'ont rien à faire avec la sauvagerie.

First Edition.

Duchamp designed this cover using a reproduction of his readymade "Comb" and an image of the journal's masthead. The same reproduction (but without the 'Transition' masthead) is included in all copies of 'The Box in a Valise', 1941. According to Silvia Beach, James Joyce told her jokingly that "the comb with thick teeth shown on his cover was the one used to comb out" Work in Progress", (Schwarz).

Some wear to wrapper extremities, else fine.

Ths number has texts by James Joyce, Franz Kafka and others and includsg important photographs.

Preserved in a cloth drop-back box (234mm).

Although sold as a 'Duchamp' item it also contains the first printing of part of Finnegans Wake: "Work in Progress". Opening pages, Part Two, Section Three and should therefore also be regarded as a "Joyce" item!
