The numbering is as complex as an incunabulum. There is a short essay by Kentridge on J2. The numbers extend, in some instances, to separate sentences. If there is any logic to the alphabetic demarcation, this is known only to Kentridge.

The personal aphorisms, long a feature of his printmaking, are spectacular: a store for future use.
