The Grid is a visual statement of the transition from linear grid-based typograpgy to dispersed, post-grid typoograpgy. The initial rigid grid of black Universe majuscules is gradually displaced by colourful, whimsical dingbats and printer's ornaments which move in a seemingly random fashion about the page, defying lines and margins. Though the book contains neither text nor illustrations in the traditional sense, there is movement and sequence which form a narrative.
