Apart from the title in indistinct pencil cursive, the artist has signed at bottom right and "Bass Andries Coetsee. Kortmens". On the back cover: "Please keep these for me till 3pm when I meet Mr Juberg (?). [signed] Walter Battiss. The book has been numbered by the artist on the recto pages; the verso pages are blank except for page 107 which is also numbered. Pages 118-122 are blank. On the front inside cover: A sketch-book is an artist's capital (in a Bank) on which you continue to draw interest. Walter Battiss. The Art Centre 287 Skinner Street, Pretoria. Summer 1954. Clouds cruising above; Below thirsty rocks; drinking the white milk of the sea (composed in a dream 21.3.48. Most of the pages show landscapes and people with some text.
