Housed in cloth cover, from which these were taken, which contained many more page. The inside front and back covers are densely annotated, e.g.:

"The most languid & satisfying ennui I now moving along the shallow seas between the Bajum islands". "As long as you don't expect me to make intelligible noises when I tell Baib [sp?] I'll show him my drawings of Lamu". "After a stay at Mombasa I feel as languid as a curved tall palm." "A melancholy sighing from the windy palms weighed with the hearts of coconuts."
