This was made during the preliminary stages of completing the book with ideas for the text and the order in which the prints were to be bound. It is not known whether Battiss decided on a final order for binding but no two copies seem to be the same and the Schema order differs from other copies seen. On the Schema, "Boy with Birds" is titled "Archaic Boy with Birds".

Outside flap: Details of five prints still available ("out of ten") at the date stated: Durban March 72. These prints are not from NESOS. They are Two Boys in tree; 2 People talking; Cave; Untitled (with sketch) and Ordinary People. As NESOS was published in 1968, this page (at least) was added four years later.
