Additional notes:
Battiss's letter to Mr Halstead is written in small capitals which is very unusual. It has an illustration, top left, of three buck. It is unknown how this letter posted to Mr Halstead was found in the Estate Archive but Battiss often used the back of envelopes and paper to write notes or paste items. Most interesting is that, pasted onto the back of the page are three prints:

1. Sailing ship with B on the sails. Black.

2. African huts with aloe. Green

3. Oxen pulling load. Red.

Although undated, the prints are of an earlier date than the letter.
