Invitation designed by Battiss:

The mock-up and the final photocopied invitation. Two invitations were designed on one sheet and would have been cut in half before distribution. The two halves have slightly differing images.

The left hand half of the sheet has an illustration by Battiss of profiles on a string. The right half has the invitation which is a spook with the text changed by Battiss in cursive - changes in square brackets.

You are cordially [conditionally] invited to view an exhibition of recent [decent] paintings, drawings and watercolours by Walter Battiss. Professor Walter Battiss will be present [presented] at the opening to meet his old friends and wouls love to meet [love] some new ones. Date: 25 April, 1979. Time: 6.00 p.m. onwards [upwards]. Venue: [Venus & Adonis], Jack Heath Gallery, Fine Arts Building, Ridge Road, Pietermaritzburg.
