Run 1 (warm black) was scanned on a flat-bed scanner from 1890s technical mining manuals. Runs 2 & 3 (cool black and red) were drawn by William Kentridge using India ink and red pencils on 63 separate sheets of paper which were individually scanned on a flat-bed scanner and output onto film using an imagesetter. These films were contact-exposed onto aluminium lithographic plates and then printed over the book pages.
