Additional notes: The bookseller - Colin Franklin: The unique copy prepared for me with all proofs and working drawings, some original metal plates, together with the original calligraphy for the text, written out on vellum and a tape recording of the performnce. In a specially made wooden case and sculptured metal mask on the front of the case; lock and key.
The colophon: FUNGUS & CURMUDGEONLY was written in 1976 and performed for the first time at Edinburgh Fringe Festival that year, then in Stratford-upon-Avon, at the Macbeth Room, Shakespeare Hotel in summer 1977.
This frst edition is designed, illustrated and produced by Natalia d'Arbeloff.
The etchings were printed by the artist on Arches Buff Cover. The images over the text were also printed by NdA on an etching press, from mixed-media plates.
Calligraphy for the text is by Sally Johnson.
The triptych 'stage' box was designed and decorated by NdA and made by Derek Henden, who also made the outer box / cabinet. Cold-Cast Bronze relief on the lid by Derek Norman.
Vellum binding and leather case by Jenny Lindsay, decoraed by NdA.
A reading of the play, specially produced for the cassettes which accompany each copy of the book, was recorede onOctober 4th, 1979, at Elephant Recording Studio, London, with Charles Turner in the role of FUNGUS and Jack Le White as CURMUDGEONLY, directed by NdA. Electronic sound-effects on synthesizer by Steve Baker. Cassette copies by Tam Studio, London. Photos of actors by Peg Mills.

There are twenty-three vellum sheets, with four blank paper pages at both the beginning and the end of the book. The covers and end-papers are decorated with the same illustration. The box is 51 x 39.5cm.
The right hand side of the opened cabinet contains the unique copy of the special edition produced in an edition of 50.
This is the triptych 'stage' box which is divided into two parts, opening in the middle.
The left hand side of the opened cabinet contains the unique preliminary material for the book.
The triptych 'stage' box is divided into three parts, opening in the middle, the central portion is a frame containg the six etchings numbered I-IV. A/P. Signed NdA '80 with an original painting on vellum, all sliding into the frame from the top.
This central frame has a hinged box on either side which close to form the wooden block. The right hand box contains the tape recording in a recess carved into the wooden block and the left hand box contains the book in a wrap-around brown leather folder.
