Additional notes:
Original drawing duplicated for distribution with Izwi 8 (Volume 2, No. 8 - February 1st, 1973) for which 250 copies were included with the publication: each was numbered and signed by Battiss. My copy is #108/250.

Extract from "Printing in the Seventies: Battiss, Burwitz, Skotnes and More - The Stephen Gray Collection", a brochure accompanying the exhibition at Gallery AOP (Johannesburg, June 2012): "Since literature was my vocation, I fell in with the likes of the late Phil du Plessis, who had been edited "Wurm". Together with Wilma Stockenstrom, we were to edit the new IZWI, which ran from October, 1971, to December, 197. Each of the twenty numbers, selling at 50c. Each, was to contain one graphic as an incentive to buyers. Soon we learned to staple these free gifts inside the texts, which were typed out on stencils and duplicated on a rotary machine. Battiss himself out of Giotto's Hill in Menlo Park generously signed 250 copies of one of his erotic fantasy drawings for us" (illustrated) [this item].
