FOOK ISLAND BLEND - an original sealed packet of Giles Battiss’s Tabacum Fook Island Blend sold at his short lived tobacco and pipe business that opened its doors in 1974 and closed down two years later in 1976, leaving Walter Battiss, who signed surety, with an outstanding debt of R 14 000.00 (Walter Battiss: 'I Invented Myself', letter number 53 to Dacre Punt, 26 June 1976, transcript page 165), a fortune of money forty years ago. The black and white illustration used to decorate the plastic packet was drawn by Walter Battiss. (Watten Biebrits).
